The Papua New Guinea police commissioner, Tom Kulunga, says the constabulary's planned Centre of Excellence will help deliver a more highly trained force.
The latest plans for the Centre have just been made public.
It will replace the present training facility, the Bomana Police College and Mr Kulunga says it will used to educate a new generation to the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
He says with the challenges posed by ill-discipline and corruption within the force the Centre is part of the plan to rebuild the nation's confidence in the police.
"The buildings and the infrastructure are just part of it. But that will support the development of facilities at Bomana Police College and also the revision of all regimes, including curriculum, lesson plans, notes and assessment tools - all of that is included as well. It is an overall package. It is not just the physical part of it."
