An inmate at the Territorial Correctional Facility in American Samoa has been found guilty of first degree robbery, first degree assault and escape from confinement for the brutal attack of an ANZ bank security guard two years ago.

The government's key witnesses were three cellmates of 22-year-old Pati Lepou, two of whom received plea agreements for cooperating in the defendant's case.

The three said they escaped with Lepou on the night of January 22, 2010 with Lepou and he was the one who assaulted the security guard and gave the instruction to stab and kill him with a butter knife.

The guard was hospitalised for some time as a result of the assault.

Lepou will be sentenced July the 27th.
