A Samoan filmmaker says his latest feature-length movie was shot entirely in American Samoa with the hope of exposing the territory's film industry potential.

Tanupo Aukuso's film Tauaso Le Alofa or Love is Blind, which explores social issues such as secrecy, premiered in American Samoa at the weekend.

Mr Aukuso says he hopes the film will showcase the acting talent in American Samoa.

"The main reason is to give these people the opportunity to expose their acting talent and also just to generate that awareness in the island that we now have another industry that there's a lot of young people her with talents but there is nowhere to take that talent to and this is a stepping stone, another alternative for them."

Tanupo Aukuso says he hopes the American Samoa government will recognise the film industry potential and invest in new projects.
