Samoa gets Australian funding to boost its law and justice sector

Samoa's Law and Justice Sector has received funding from Australia of more than 2 million US dollars to help reduce the level of serious crime and strengthen the rule of law.

The program will also increase safety in the community, access to the legal system, promote integrity and good governance and build the capacity of agencies in the law and justice sector.

An official with the Australia government aid agency, AusAID, Anthony Stannard says Australia's support for the programme continues a successful partnership which began in 2007.

This financial year, the Australian Government will provide over 50 million US dollars under the Australia-Samoa Partnership for Development.
