The beverage bottling company Coca Cola Amatil is buying a Fijian beer and spirits business for a reported 61 million US dollars.

The assets of the business are owned by international brewer SABMiller which swallowed the previous owner, Foster's, which owns Samoa Breweries, the makers of Vailima Beer.

Coca Cola Amatil had the rights to buy the Fijian operation as part of a separate deal last year in which it sold its half share in its Australian brewing business to SABMiller.

Under the deal, Coca-Cola Amatil will proceed with the acquisition of the Fiji business through the majority stake holder for 61 million.
