Fiji's regime leader Commodore Frank Bainimarama says he is considering standing in the promised 2014 polls.
He says the man he removed from power, the former prime minister Laisenia Qarase, is also welcome to stand.

"Commodore Bainimarama told Sky News he would consider whether to stand closer to the time, because he didn't want to divert attention from bringing about a credible constitution and elections. He says if he did stand there is no doubt that he would win. Ministers joining Fiji's interim regime after the 2006 coup were asked to swear an oath that they would not stand in elections. The interim leader says he does not know if Fiji's style of democracy will incorporate a high level of military control. Commodore Bainimarama says Fiji's soldiers are tired of coups which is why there was no chance of a coup against him by Ratu Tevita Mara, the high-ranking military officer who fled Fiji last year. He says he still regards Britain's Queen Elizabeth as the Queen of Fiji, despite Fiji's suspension from the Commonwealth."
