A Niue MP says the police aren't doing enough to discourage more outbreaks of violence on the island.
The village of Hikutavake has been the scene of a number of arsons and shootings, following an initial arson attack after last year's general election in May.
One of the December fires remains unsolved, despite police posting a reward of almost eight thousand US dollars.
Terry Coe says the police should have done the hard work rather than posting a reward and he's worried there'll be more violent disputes, especially over land.
"People get very frustrated and upset and if they see that this is not treated seriously and people are not put in jail for what they've committed, they're likely to do the same thing and hope that they get away with it as well."
Terry Coe says the process for recruiting overseas police to Niue should be reviewed and local trainees required to pass the New Zealand police college course.
