Fiji pension registration deadline extended to end of March

The Fiji National Provident Fund has decided to extend the validation period for pensioners by a month.

Under a new decree, all retirees of the FNPF were required to re-apply to formalise their status and choose their pension options.

The Fund's Chief Executive Officer, Aisake Taito, has told local media that about 2,000 pensioners failed to do so a day before Wednesday's expiry of the registration period.

He says follwoing requests by some pensioners overseas and in remote areas, the registration deadline has been put off to the end of March.

There has been resistance to the changes of the scheme as many retirees will see a substantial cut in their pension.
