Educator stands as American Samoa's first woman governor

Dr. Salu Hunkin Finau has kicked off her campaign to be the first woman governor of American Samoa.

American Samoa goes to the polls in November, and the current governor, Togiola Tulafono can not seek re-election.

Dr. Hunkin Finau has declared her candidacy and announced her running mate, retired Command Sergeant Major Iuniasolua Savusa.

She says she and Sergeant Major Savusa have proven track records and can provide the kind of leadership the territory needs.

"This election is not about gender. It is not about mataiship. It is not about high-ranking positions. This is election is about the time is now to provide our people with a better choice."
