A health worker with Christchurch's Pacific Island community is being honoured today for her role after last February's devastating earthquake.

The Christchurch City Council is presenting Genevieve Togiaso with one of the city's Earthquake Awards at a special ceremony on the one year anniversary of the 6 point 3 quake.

Genevieve Togioso has co-ordinated health services for 15 percent of the 12 thousand strong community since the quake.

She says they suffered many health problems in the wake of the disaster.

"Lots of overcrowding, there were a lot of sores because of liquefaction, infections, a lot of respiratory issues around breathing the dust etc. We mainly found they just wanted to talk and tell their story."
