French Polynesia media site launches Tahitileaks

4:10 pm on 21 February 2012

One of French Polynesia's daily newspapers says it is beginning to offer an internet dropbox for leaked documents to be known as Tahitileaks.

The Nouvelles de Tahiti newspaper says it follows the examples of Wikileaks and Frenchleaks, whose documents are edited and published by Mediapart.

The paper says the website has a feature which allows information to be delivered anonymously to protect the sender of confidential and sensitive documents.

The paper says its editorial staff will screen the material and assess its veracity before publishing it.
