Sport: Broncos to decide whether to challenge Civoniceva charge

11:29 am on 21 February 2012

The Brisbane Broncos will decide on Tuesday whether to challenge the severity of a judiciary charge threatening to keep returning prop Petero Civoniceva out of the opening two weeks of the NRL season.

The match review committee carged the Fijian born prop with a careless grade three charge for his high shot on Melbourne backrower Ryan Hinchcliffe in Saturday night's NRL trial at North Hobart Oval.

Broncos coach Anthony Griffin and football operations manager Andrew Gee have since studied video footage of the tackle.

If he pleads guilty, Civoniceva will have to serve a one-match suspension but if he challenges the severity the ex Panthers front rower risks missing a further match.
