Public schools in the Northern Marianas have been ordered to close earlier to reduce power costs.
The move, effective from today, requires schools to dismiss students 45 minutes earlier each day.
In addition schools have been instructed not to use air conditioning systems before ten am.
The schools have been told to open windows and doors instead.
