Around 300 people are feared missing after a boat accident in Papua New Guinea's northwest.

The ferry between Lae and Kimbe West, the MV Rabaul Queen, sent a distress signal around 8:30AM local time and reports are emerging from PNG that it has sunk.

PNG's National Maritime Safety Authority says it's in the process of receiving reports about the situation, and is to make a statement later in the day.
