The United States Coast Guard has suspended the search for an 18 year old sailor who has been missing since Monday.

The head of the local Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment Unit, Lieutenant Steven Caskey says the search was suspended last night at the end of the 72 hour limit.

The identity of the missing fisherman is being withheld pending identification of his next of kin.

He is believed to be from American Samoa.

The seaman fell overboard the fishing boat Siva Moana while recovering fishing gear, about 115 miles south of American Samoa.

A Coast Guard Hercules aircraft from Barber's Point, Hawaii and a Royal New Zealand Air Force P-3 Orion searched for him soon after he was reported missing.
