Sanctions planned for American Samoa school after rock throwing incident

The American Samoa High School Athletic Association has recommended sanctions against the Tafuna High School sports programme following a rock throwing incident.

The suggestions follow a board meeting last week to review a 40 second video clip which shows 20 students from Tafuna High School hurling rocks at vehicles displaying flags of Fagaitua High School.

The incident is believed to have been sparked after Faigatua beat Tafuna in a championship football match.

A government source says one of the recommendations is to suspend Tafuna High from other sporting competitions for the rest of the current school year, which ends in May.

Meanwhile some lawmakers in American Samoa are calling for swift action, including suspensions, of the students who were involved in the rock throwing.
