Former Solomons' attorney general could sue Australia over deportation

4:29 pm on 8 December 2011

The former Solomon Islands attorney-general Julian Moti is likely to sue over his illegal deportation to Australia in 2007.

The High Court in Australia halted the prosecution of child sex charges against Mr Moti yesterday.

A full bench of the High Court ruled Mr Moti had been illegally deported from the Solomon Islands in December 2007, ordering a stay of charges.

The Solomon Star reports, former Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare, as saying Mr Moti is expected to challenge his illegal deportation against the Government.

Mr Sogavare says Mr Moti has the right to sue the Government for his illegal deportation.
