Niue police seek public help after arsons in Hikutavake

4:19 pm on 7 December 2011

Niue police are investigating a deliberately lit fire at a residential property early yesterday morning.

No one was injured in the fire, which destroyed a house at Hikutavake, and no arrests have yet been made.

Shortly after the house fire, a nearby bar and village hall were also destroyed by fire.

A man has been arrested and charged in relation to these two fires.

He appeared before the Court Registrar of the Niue Court on Monday afternoon, and was granted interim bail.

Police are asking for anyone with information about the house fire to come forward.

Hikutavake was also the site of an alleged house arson on the night of the island's elections in May this year.
