Report raises funding woes in key French Polynesia town

1:35 pm on 21 November 2011

French Polynesia's Accounts Office has warned that the way the township of Pirae has been run has left it short of funds for an urgently needed upgrade of the water supply system.

Pirae is next to Papeete and the stronghold of the Tahoeraa Huiraatira Party of Gaston Flosse.

The Office report, quoted by Tahitipresse, notes that there used to be discrepancies between the staff listings and the relevant budget documents.

It says the funding given to Radio Maohi was cut in 2008 because it failed to prove that it was impartial.
