The Samoan Bureau of Statistics believes next week's national census will show a small decrease in the country's population.
The last census was conducted in 2006.
Around one thousand four hundred census enumerators will visit homes on Savaii and Upolo to distribute census forms to the head of each household.
The deputy chief executive of the Samoa Statistical Service Division Sefuiva Muagututia says small population have been recorded in the past, but in recent years there's been a fall in numbers.
"I think migration is very critical to the population Samoa. Every year there is about eleven hundred people who move to New Zealand and qualify to go to New Zealand on the quota scheme."
Mr Muagututia says the census will begin on October the 24th, and will finish on November the 7th.
