American Samoa governor candidate withdraws from race

6:49 am on 12 October 2011

Utu Abe Malae has withdrawn his candidacy for the American Samoa gubernatorial elections.

Utu says he needs to continue to give the Northern Marianas Commonwealth Utility Corporation, of which he is the Executive Director, his undivided attention.

He says he has realised his departure would have a devastating effect on the operations of the CUC and hurt the people and government of the CNMI.

Utu has encouraged his committee to put up his intended running mate, Judge Save Liuato as the new gubernatorial candidate.
