The Niue government statistician, Kimray Vaha, says provisional results show there were 1615 people on the island on census night on Saturday the 10th of September.
125 of these were tourists staying in the hotel, motels or on yachts, but he says there were other visitors staying long term in private accommodation.
The figures also show there were 489 private households with 1176 people of Niuean descent on the island.
Mr Vaha says it will be June next year before the full results are out.
