The Solomon Islands National Union of Workers is calling for a formal investigation into claims by the former managing director of Russel Islands Plantation Estate Limited, Patrick Wong, that his companies paid out millions of dollars to establish operations.

The union's general secretary, Tony Kagovai, said Patrick Wong insists the Cross Pacific Trading Limited and the Pacific Finance Limited had givin loans to the value of 3-point-74 million US dollars for the operations of RIPEL.

He told the Solomons Star that there is no proof that such funds ever came into the country.

The union is calling on the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank of Solomon Islands to formally investigate Mr Wong for possible money laundering.
