The Northern Marianas are expecting an increase in tourists from China from November after the announcement of two extra weekly flights from Shanghai.

More than 40,000 visitors arrived from China last year and the doubling of flights is expected to boost arrivals by ten percent, rising to 40 percent by 2012.

The charter planes are provided by Sichuan Airlines.

The Governor of the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Benigno Fitial announced the flights to 100 travel agents in Shanghai and updated them on Saipan, Tinian and Rota.
