A Samoan police officer, Ieli Moresby Okesene, has been jailed for one year for forgery and another six months for bigamy.

The former prosecution division officer was charged separately but sentenced at the same time.

He was found to have forged the signature of an assistant police commissioner in a letter attached to a visa application and sent to the Australian High Commission.

The office was suspicious and sent the letter back to the police headquarters for verification which resulted to an investigation.

Okesene was charged with bigamy after he was caught re-marrying without dissolving his first marriage through a legal divorce.
