Niue signs aid agreement with NZ for tourism projects

5:28 pm on 5 September 2011

Niue has signed a joint development aid agreement with New Zealand to fund development projects for tourism on the island.

The agreement pledges 15 million New Zealand dollars, or 12.7 million US dollars, over three years.

The Premier of Niue, Toke Talagi, says he is happy with the deal as it has taken several years to get this agreement signed.

He says it is good that Niue now has some budget surety to move forward with their development goals for tourism.

"It is important because it gives us confidence. The New Zealand government is confident in that we are able to develop our economy using the financial resources they're providing for us. 12"

Toke Talagi signed the agreement with New Zealand's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Murray McCully in Auckland.
