Sport: PNG expected to have edge in skill in AFL International Cup final

10:06 am on 27 August 2011

The coach of the Papua New Guinea Associated Football league side says the Mosquitos should have the edge, skillwise, over their opponents in today's final of the International Cup in Melbourne.

David Lake says Ireland are a big side and have demonstrated strong passing skills.

But Lake says PNG have created momentum through the tournament and have bonded in their pursuit to hold onto the Cup.

"Their desire to work hard for each other, to share the ball. They love to look after each other. Their tackle pressure is phenomenal, in that they're highly skilled. Their natural game style is highly effective. Probably more important very natural. So you are not trying to teach them. They do that naturally which makes it very easy."
