Northern Marianas told to consider small scale casino in Saipan

A Macau-based gaming consultant has this week told the governor of the Northern Marianas and other politicians that a casino on Saipan is feasible, but he says the government needs to start small.

Consultant Ben Lee says the island shouldn't expect to draw major investors due to challenges such as the limited number of airlines flying into Saipan.

He says the Commonwealth also needs to small because Saipan will face stiff competition from Asian gambling destinations, such as Macau, Korea, Singapore, Cambodia, and the Philippines.

But he says it would still give Saipan's tourism industry a boost.
