American Samoa Governor says territory could benefit from Samoa dateline change

The American Samoa Governor says the territory could benefit if Samoa moves west of the international dateline.

Togiola Tulafono says having Samoa a day ahead of American Samoa will be

more convenient for business people, visitors and regular travellers between the

two Samoas.

Togiola says local business people can travel to Apia on a Sunday in Pago Pago and be able to complete transactions that day, as it would be a Monday in Samoa.

The governor also sees great marketing potential in having the sun rise and set

in the two island groups on different days.

Togiola Tulafono says he is not planning to follow Samoa with the dateline change, saying American Samoa has to remain on the same date as the United States, with which it does all its business.
