A multi-million dollar compensation claim over the death of a mother and child in a Samoan hospital has gone to mediation.

Mimita Tautaiolefue is accusing hospital staff of negligence and sued the Ministry of Health over the death of his wife and unborn child at the Tuasivi hospital in February last year.

Mr Tautaiolefue filed a claim worth three million US dollars but has agreed for the matter to be transferred from the court to mediation.

He has since agreed to have the compensation claim reduced and is now awaiting the Attorney General's Office to set the new amount to be paid.
