The French overseas territories minister, Marie-Luce Penchard, says no early elections are planned in French Polynesia despite Paris choosing to amend the territory's electoral system under urgency.
Mrs Penchard was speaking in Paris after presenting the latest reforms to the French cabinet ahead of the 2013 election.
She says the French senate will debate her proposal in June before it goes to the assembly.
The new system, which is the fourth produced by Paris since 2004, will see the number of electorates drop by one to five.
The winning list will secure a third of all seats as a bonus, which should ensure a strong majority emerges.
The reform follows prolonged political instability, with the last change of government in Tahiti taking place at the beginning of this month.
