The American Samoa Red Cross has raised more than 25,000 US dollars for the victims of the Christchurch and Japan earthquakes.

70 percent of the money will be given to Japan and the balance will be gifted to Christchurch.

The Red Cross Board of Directors approved a resolution to be sent with the donation, which has been read out by its board secretary Iulogologo Joe Pereira .

"And whereas the world community is rushing to provide assistance to the devastated regions of Japan and Christchurch New Zealand, we too, as part of the global family, should do our part, irrespective of our size, to demonstrate our appreciation for the help we received during our time of sorrow."
