The French Polynesian assembly has adjourned its debate on a no confidence motion against the government of Gaston Tong Sang until tomorrow.
The motion was lodged by the pro-independence party led by Oscar Temaru, which says it is the last chance for the territory to get out of its malaise.
It's uncertain if Mr Temaru's side can attract 29 votes to pass the motion which would make him the president for a fifth time in seven years.
An independent member, Chantal Galenon, has now hinted that she may no longer want Mr Tong Sang to continue to run the government.
"The only two people that can bring us stability today are Mr Oscar Temaru because he has the political power and Mr Gaston Flosse because he has the political knowledge and the wisdom and political maturity."
Reports from Tahiti say that the so-called pro-autonomy members plan to walk out of the assembly before the vote tomorrow.
