The union representing most doctors in Papua New Guinea is threatening to go on strike this Friday over an on-going industrial dispute.
In 2009 the National Doctors Association asked the Department of Personnel Management and the Department of Health to sign a new memorandum of agreement to lift doctors' salaries by two grades and to pay them other allowances.
It later accepted a revised agreement of one grade higher with the associated salary increases to be paid to doctors.
The President of the Association, Dr Kauve Pomat says all union members are expected to walk off the job if the agreement is not signed by the end of the week.
"All we are demanding here is look we've put in almost three years of negotiating over the revised 2009 MOA. All we are asking is for the Department of Personnel Management to recognise that and sign."
Dr Kauve Pomat says the union will have a contingency plan in place to cater to hospital patients with life-threatening conditions.
