Chilean police evict remaining Rapa Nui from hotel

9:38 am on 7 February 2011

A lawyer representing a clan in Rapa Nui says about 50 armed Chilean police have evicted four remaining clan members fighting for the return of ancestral land on the island.

Rodrigo Gomez claims the police used unnecessary force to remove the two women and two men occupying the hotel complex.

Mr Gomez says the evictions come just two days before court proceedings due to take place on Rapa Nui to try to clear up ownership rights to the land.

He says one clan member was arrested but later released.

Mr Gomez says a legal colleague was roughed up by police when trying to talk to his clients.
