Solomons plans Munda upgrade to international airport

2:34 pm on 28 December 2010

Solomon Islands will upgrade Munda Airport to be the country's second international airport.

The Prime Minister, Danny Philip, says he hopes the upgrading will boost the tourism industry.

Mr Philip says because the Western Province is the country's tourism centre, it is important there is an international set-up in Munda.

The Solomon Star reports him as saying this is one of the government's priorities and plans are in place to begin the first phase of progress on Munda airport.

Mr Philip says people in Kekehe are willing to relocate to allow for the upgrades.
