CNMI Senate expected to reject marijuana legalisation bill

The Northern Marianas Senate is expected to reject a House of Representatives bill that seeks to legalise and tax marijuana for medical purposes.

The Senate President Paul Manglona says he doesn't support the bill and is calling for the House members to work with the Senate on exploring ways to enforce tax laws and generate revenue not related to marijuana use.

The House Committee on Natural Resources said the enactment of the bill could mean the loss of federal funds but at the same time the CNMI government would generate income through taxation.
