6:21 pm on 3 November 2010

The Director of Public prosecutions office in Fiji has thrown out conspiracy charges laid against 36 Methodist church ministers.

According to FBC News, the office found there was no evidence.

However, charges against the president of the Methodist church, the Reverend Ame Tugaue and the Reverend Tuikilakila Waqairatu, who are charged with organising an unlawful meeting, still stand.

Charges against former president Reverend Tomasi Kanailagi and Reverend Manasa Lasaro both charged with attending unlawful meeting also remain.

The cases relate to last year's unsuccessful church attempt to hold its annual meeting after the interim regime imposed emergency regulations.
