Pacific Island Forum economic ministers meet in Niue this week to consider regional standards for public financial management which have been developed to help the region cope with the global economic crisis.

This is one of the means the ministers are looking at for improving economic resilience and was first mooted last year under the Forum's Cairns Compact.

The secretary general of the Forum, Tuiloma Neroni Slade, says the standards aim to ensure that the management systems in use are robust.

"These are things that are built on international best practice and built on known international practice relating to aid effectiveness etc. Now obviously these things are being produced as regional standards. It's up for each member country to accept and adopt them into its on national behaviour."
