Work is being started in Tubuai in French Polynesia this week to rebuild the main road after it was badly damaged by Cyclone Oli last February.

Seven million US dollars has been allocated for the project which is expected to take seven months to complete.

The rehabilitation of the island also involves repairs to the water supply system and the electricity network.

The French state and the French Polynesian government will each contribute 14 million US dollars.

The cyclone killed one person and damaged more than 150 homes.
