Samoans celebrate White Sunday

9:30 am on 11 October 2010

Children throughout the Samoan islands will today parade into their churches in white outfits, perform songs and give readings before being treated to a lavish feast for White Sunday.

Celebrated on the second Sunday of October, White Sunday is Children's Day throughout the Samoan islands and many other of the South Pacific island nations.

American Samoa's governor, Togiola Tulafono, says White Sunday provides everyone with an opportunity to celebrate children.

He says that every year it is a reminder for all to cherish and value every child in their lives.
