The president of the Cook Islands Democratic Party says under its election manifesto it'll be targetting diet-related disease in the country.

The party's launching its official campaign tomorrow night and Sean Willis says it's hoped the manifesto will be released at the end of next week.

He says people need to return to traditional foods.

"Eating the rukau and fish. There's a great number of people now having diet-related diseases and we think if we can and try and go back with regards to the school and educating the community that we need to be more aware of what we eat and eat less."

Sean Willis says following a split in the party earlier this year it's in as good a shape as possible to contest next month's election.
