As the services remembering the Pacific Tsunami came to a close, residents in American Samoa and Samoa felt a 5.4 aftershock, following the quake near Indonesia.

One resident of Leone said her whole house shook, and some people in the village ran out of their homes seeking higher ground.

In Samoa, our correspondent Autagavaia Tipi Autagavaia says he too felt the shaking when the quake struck at about 7.50am local time.

He says because the country is busy commemorating the first anniversary of the September 29th tsunami, he doesnt know what effect this morning's quake has had.

"The earthquake occurred when most of the villages affected by the tsunami last year held their church services. So so far I haven't received any reports of any damage or reports of any who knew about the earthquake."
