Run-off election in Cook Islands Democratic Party today

10:54 am on 30 September 2010

In the Cook Islands, voters will be watching with interest the results of a candidate run-off today between the two Democratic Party nominees in the Ngatangiia constituency.

The nominees vying to be the Democratic party candidate in Ngatangiia are sitting MP Sir Terepai Maoate who was sacked as finance minister in December last year for the failed controversial fuel supply deal which has cost the government several millions -- the other is businessman Mann Short, a newcomer to politics.

Voting will take place between the hours of 12pm to 7pm local time.

The results are expected about an hour after voting closes this evening.
