The MPs voted in to power in Tuvalu's elections will meet this week to form a new government and choose a new Prime Minister.

Tuvalu does not have political parties and instead forms a government from alliances of MPs from the country's eight inhabited islands.

Tuvalu's Prime Minister, Apisai Ielemia, was among 10 sitting MPs re-elected in polls for15-seat parliament.

Speaker Kamuta Latasi is quoted by AAP as saying last week that there was no indication what the five new members might want.
