The Pacific Beachcomber hotel group says it plans to invest more than 60 million US dollars in a new hotel in French Polynesia.

The company's president, Richard Bailey, says it is in the process of building a so-called eco-hotel on a small island off Tetiaroa, which had previously been owned by the US actor, Marlon Brando.

Mr Bailey says about 40 accommodation units are planned, creating jobs for about 100 people.

He says the project is expected to be completed in the second half of 2012.
