The Guadalcanal Provincial Government in Solomon Islands has expressed disappointment the Tongan government will not allow local forces to question two RAMSI officers over the shooting dead of a civilian.
The former police officer was hit by fire thought to have come from firearms belonging to two military officers of the Regional Assistance Mission.
They were part of a larger security group including police that had been called to a brawl and stone throwing incident in part of Honiara shortly after last month's elections.
A request to the Tongan government to waiver jurisdiction rights of the two soldiers had been rejected and the soldiers have since left Honiara following the end of their contingent's term with RAMSI.
In a statement to SIBC News, Guadalcanal Premier Stephen Panga says his government respects the Tongan government's decisions not to waiver jurisdiction of the two Tongan soldiers.
But he says the shooting incident has given rise to questions over immunity issues in connection with having armed military in the country.
