In American Samoa, Tualauta Representatives Larry Sanitoa and Galu Satele Junior are pleased to see federal stimulus dollars being put to use and creating jobs.

The lawmakers attended the commissioning of a 28-kilowatt solar photovoltaic system at the Tautua Mo Oe business in Tafuna.

The project is the first of 25 photovoltaic systems, ranging from 19 to 28 kilowatts, that have been installed or in the process of being installed on commercial and government buildings.

The project is financed with American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds.

The contractor Island Energy and Marine has hired 12 full time employees to install the photovaltaic systems.

Representative Larry Sanitoa says it is a very promising project that will not only help the environment but assist businesses in reducing costs.

"It will help our local economy in terms of creating new jobs but especially with what's going on now in terms of our cost of energy and electricity and so forth, this will certainly help."
