Frustrations mount in CNMI over local permit process

Businesses have expressed their frustration over the Northern Mariana's governments requirements to secure a business license and other regulatory permits.

Frustrated investors say the U.S. Department of the Interior's five recommendations about improved immigration status for foreign workers needs more clarification.

In a Chamber of Commerce meeting businesses said it takes a month, for example, to secure a business permit in the CNMI with different regulatory agencies having different demands.

Commerce Secretary Michael Ada said the government is now developing a federal grant application to implement the automation of the licensing process.
