Two officials from a cannery in the Philippines have arrived in American Samoa for discussions with Governor Togiola Tulafono.

A local businessman who is helping arrange the meetings for the visiting officials says they've been negotiating with the government for two years.

This comes amid the decline of the canneries in the territory and plans by the government to seek a role.

Our correspondent says the name of the company has not been disclosed as they are in Pago Pago for sensitive business matters.

Sources say the company specialises in providing and installing canning equipment, which is not limited to fish products.
